Why Eating Healthy Is Important
Basically, it is still possible to lose weight on any diet by eating fewer calories than you burn. The advantage of the low carb diet is that they cause you to want to eat less even without counting calories and most obese people eat far fewer calories on low carb. Keep in mind that sugar and starch may increase your hunger, while avoiding them may decrease your appetite to an adequate level. If your body wants to have an appropriate number of calories you don’t need to count them.
Healthy eating foods can help you control your energy balance and somehow:
- Some have foods that they always overeat and struggle to apply moderation. Common of these includes nuts, fruits, dairy and bread products. All of these can be part of a healthy, well-balanced and moderated diet but if they make it difficult for you to control your energy balance then they probably aren’t the best foods for you to eat on a daily basis.
- Some have foods that eat them up and keep them satisfied for hours. For some, this is something high in protein and fat like eggs while for others it’s something high in complex carbs like rolled oats or quinoa. Keeping a list and rating how you feel after eating can help you identify foods like these which will help you control your balance.
- Some have foods that they struggle to eat a lot of such as vegetables or fish or enough quality protein in general. There are days where you feel absolutely ravenous and nothing seems to satiate you, these should be your go-to foods to take advantage of when you are hungry and also help you determine if you truly are hungry or just craving something specific that results to overeating.
On a LCHF diet, the hunger and urge to eat tends to decrease a lot, especially if you have too much weight to lose. Your body may be burning your fat stores, reducing the need to eat. Some people fear that they will lose control if they don’t eat every three hours, which making them eat thousands of calories and blowing their diets completely. So they obsessively snack all the time. This obsessive snacking may be necessary on a diet high in sugar or processed carbs to control hunger cravings, but it’s usually completely unnecessary on an LCHF diet. Hunger will only return and you’ll have plenty of time to prepare food or grab a snack. It’s stunning how often we eat out of boredom, nervousness, habit, or frustration so often that many of us have actually forgotten what physical hunger feels like. If you’re looking for a specific food, it’s probably a craving, not hunger. If you’d eat anything you could get your hands on, chances are you’re truly hungry. Learning how to recognize these feelings can control hunger, then find ways other than eating to express love, tame stress and relieve boredom.
